Comments about Lillian Vernon Zip Top Messenger Bag:

I had this bag in pink/purple when I was in the 3rd grade. I had such a hard time with it that I replaced it in January of that school year. It took a REDICULOUS amount of effort to see that all of my folders and binders were shoved in there "just so." Trying to get my lunchbox in seemed next to impossible. It might be a cute, easy fix for a pre-schooler or a kindergartener with very little stuff, but in grade school, when they start getting homework and lugging books and folders back and forth, it becomes more of a hindrance than a help. For someone in jr. high or above, it's simply out of the question. If you do buy, just know that it won't last more than a school year.

Cute bag, but I was first trying to put the folders in sideways(Thats why people are saying the top is too small). You must put the Binders & Folders in Tall(Portrait Style). I was able to get my daugter's 1&1/2 inch binder + 2 school books and folder. Just make sure you put them in the tall way. I tried a 3 inch binder it was too fat. I suggest not going over a 2 inch binder.

I wouldn't recommend this to an enemy much less a friend. Unfortunate, b/c I LOVE Lillian Vernon!
I purchased one for my K last year & she had such a hard time with it that the Teacher actually suggested we get a "normal" bag. It was a shame b/c we had bought a pink/cheetah print jacket & they matched so nicely. I asked her if she wanted this for 1st grade & she said NO WAY!
My 3rd grader liked the look & the style, however, she hated shoving things in to make them fit & had troubles with getting her folders & workbooks in. Her smaller text books went in easier, but didn't hold more than 2!

I wouldn't recommend it for older children as I'm not sure it would carry a heavy load of books but it is cute for the younger ones. Pros:
Attractive Design
Cons:
Wears Out Quickly
Describe Yourself:
Stylish, Trendy
Primary use:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Lillian Vernon Zip Top Messenger Bag:

Don't believe the reviews stating how roomy this bag is. It is very, very, small and very cheaply made. My daughter is only in second grade and does not have much room for her things. A standard size folder must be shoved in the bag.."just the right way". Water bottle holder on side of bag will not actually keep a water bottle in place. It falls out. The inside zipper broke 3weeks into school. While the bag is visually cute it is not practical in anyway. Good for colors and coloring books. Would definitely NOT recomend especially as a school bag.

My 4th grade daughter is able to fit all her big books and folders in this bag. We were able to transfer her things from a standard bookbag to this messenger bag with no problem. We were pleasantly surprised at how much fit in this bag. Even though the opening appears narrow, you can fit things in either way and still close the bag!

Too Small For School!
By DisappointedVerified Purchaser from Kirkland, WA on 9/22/2007
Pros:
Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight
Cons:
Zipper too small
Bottom Line:

Comments about Lillian Vernon Zip Top Messenger Bag:

This bag is cute but DO NOT BUY IT FOR SCHOOL! The zipper opening is not wide enough even for a pee chee to fit through sideways and if you put it through vertically the bag ends up bending the pee chee. Disappointing that after so much feedback about this, Lillian Vernon hasn't fixed the problem.

Bottom Line:

Comments about Lillian Vernon Zip Top Messenger Bag:

I bought this for my daughter and although the actual size is ok, the zipper doesn't allow for her books to easily come in and out. The zipper actually hinders the full used of the bag. You have to really manuver the books and binders (Standard folder size)in and out of the bag. Also it really should have another pocket under the flap instead of the one main compartment. Most messenger bags have another pocket where as this one is just one open one. Overall I am ok with the bag but won't be ordering it again for next year or for my other children. Too small for real world use. And then it has the cell phone pocket. I would think that anyone who has a cell phone would be carrying much more than this bag will allow!

Comments about Lillian Vernon Zip Top Messenger Bag:

My daughter is just going into the 1st grade but is quite petite. Backpacks are just not the way to go for her. Most of them are just as big as her and when she puts them on they pull on her back and are very uncomfortable for her. Also...her school does not allow rolling backpacks. When I saw this bag I knew it would be perfect. The strap crosses over her chest and does not alter her weight distribution in any direction. There is also a pad for her shoulder so that the strap does not dig into her skin. The entire bag is just very confortable for her to carry and is extremely roomy. I am a high end shopper but like to find a good value. This bag is definitely it. Perfect price for a perfect bag. Not to mention it came in her favorite color...PURPLE!

This bag seems to be of great quality and it is very cute. The only problem I had with the bag is that the zipper opening at the top is not quite big enough to accomodate large textbooks and folders. So, she is using it for personal travel things like coloring books and crayons!

Both of my daughters, ages 7 and 10, love their bags, but were very disappointed when their new Lillian Vernon Crinkle Nylon Binders would not fit. The mouth to the main compartment is too small. Comments about Lillian Vernon Zip Top Messenger Bag:

My ten year old daughter
loves this bag and uses it
instead of a backpack or roller
bag for school.

It's a little too small for
many or large, heavy books, but
works great for younger children
with fewer items to bring home.

Quality is good. She is very
happy with it. I wish it was
a little bigger. Not for high
school kids, grammer school only.

I bought the pink and black one for my oldest daughter a year and half ago. She has loved it and carries it proudly.I have washed the bag 2 or 3 times and it washes very well and holds it's shape. Of course when my youngest daughter starts kindergarten next week she had to have it!She was so excited to have it. It is so important to have a bag that you do not have to fold the papers to get it in the bag. The papers stay neat in this bag. It is easy for the kids to carry it over their shoulder too. The opening could be 1-2 inches longer to help out inserting the papers easier.

My daughter loves the look of the bag. HOWEVER, we purchased it for kindergarten along with the matching binder (personalized as well), pencil case, lunch bag, etc. Unfortunately, she can't get the binder in the bag, and she has a ton of trouble even getting a regulart 8 1/2 X 11 notebook in it. It's a real pain for me and even harder for her - a 5 1/2 year old. Whiles it's cute, it's not appropriate for school - binders, folders and notebooks. I'm very disappointed. Had it been for play, it would be fine. But, it's too expensive for play - especially when I purchased everything to match it and now have the matching accessories and have to buy another backpack/messenger bag that won't match (hence new accessories must be purchased as well). Unfortunately, I learned the hard way on this. P.S. the opening is approximately 11 inches at best, and narrow. (On a better note, the lunch bag (personalized) is really cute.)
