Yes, I would recommend, but only for the right use. It will be able to be kept (very compact) in a place (backpack) to be used in emergency. But I would not recommend for everyday use. It was hard to put back down, once down fit fairly easily back into case though. Felt as though I was going to break it, trying to get it back down, so flimsy. Wasn't sure if I had it all the way up, didn't "snap" into place as if complete. Still seemed more durable than my children's kids umbrellas though!
