Our St. Francis statue/bird feeder, bought at least several years ago, stands guard over our Cats' Garden, where a number of our beloved kitties are buried on our property. He has weathered the seasons well, nestled in a bed of ivy. Rather than birdseed, the small bowl usually holds rainwater, and some occasional flowers. Since he is not as heavy as he appears, he sometimes gets toppled over, but seems no worse for the experience. His presence provides comfort and inspires peace and contemplation.

I ordered this exact statue over 13 years ago from Lillian Vernon and am still very pleased with it. The thing I like the most is the incredible detail and the wonderful expression on St. Francis' face. His face is serene and kind and peaceful. I was searching for years at local and out-of-state statuary vendors and could find nothing I liked until I saw this one in the catalog and ordered it (This was long before I did any on-line ordering!)
I have two dogs who tend to run through the garden every now and then in pursuit of chipmunks and birds and they used to knock over the statue. I solved this problem by putting the statue in an area of the garden that that is not in their "running path" and positioning a couple of small boulders and larger plants around the statue so that the dogs are not as apt to run through this area. The other thing I did that keeps the statue from getting knocked over is that I "bury" it up to where St. Francis' toes are a little bit above ground level and then I tamped the dirt firmly all around the base of the statue (so you no longer see the base). It looks quite natural as I have tinier plants around the base and makes a beautiful setting!
Over the years I have applied light touches of gold and verdigris patina to cover the worn spots from rain and heavy snow (yes, he stays outside year-round). St. Francis still looks quite lovely and I can't imagine our garden without him! I'm thinking I should purchase another statue for when this one wears out though it doesn't show any signs of doing that soon!

This statue has an amazing amount of detail. So far, it is weathering very well. It has the look of carved stone, yet is light weight and easy to place in my garden or on my porch. Although it is not stated, it is made in China.

This is so pretty and visually appears to be heavier than it is. However, it falls over easily and was blown over more often than not. It cracked and broke from being blown over.

The Saint Francis bird feeder is the perfect size in my yard. I didn't want a 3 foot statue and this was the smallest one I could find. I wanted it in the garden, but I didn't want it to overpower my flowers and tree.

It's a very pretty piece, but smaller than I thought it would be. However it is still lovely and I am keeping it
