Comments about Lillian Vernon Onion Chopper:

I love this chopper, it makes dicing small so much easier. Yes, it works better with smaller sections to cut and yes it takes some strength to use, however even with the cleaning etc, it is the best tool for making fresh pico! I slice the onions and chop the slices, the tomatoes are alot easier and cabbage you have to go pretty small again slices work best. Everything comes out about the same size unlike my electric choppers. They shouldn't advertise that it will do a half onion, it really doesn't but if you use it within its limitations it is great.

GREAT CHOPPER

Many recipes call for finely chopped ingredients which takes time. This chopper saves time and chops easily and makes uniform pieces. It's best if veggies are cut into fourths and, if chopping quantities, scrape the upper section occasionally with the handy tool. I've been told it's the most useful kitchen item I've ever given.

Comments about Lillian Vernon Onion Chopper:

I loved using this chopper because it made chopping onions incredibly easy, but...

I started having a difficult time getting the onions to go through the blades, even with small pieces, so I had to press much harder. It seemed that the blades were getting dull even though I hadn't used the chopper much. It wasn't long before one of the plastic side projections that the top hinges on broke off. My mother-in-law had the same problems.

I still use the broken chopper when I have a lot of onions to cut, but it's incredibly awkward with the top not connected. The base of this would be better in metal for strength, although you would lose the ability to see how much you had chopped, which is nice.

If I see another one of these choppers at a yard sale or thrift store, I'll definitely buy it again. I do miss how easy it was to use when I first got it! Now that I know to be more careful with it, I would slice smaller sections at a time, even though what I was slicing didn't seem to be that large at the time.

The cleaning tool provided is invaluable. I forgot that I had it at first, and I struggled to clean bits of onion out of the top using the point of a knife. With the tool, cleaning took no time at all.

Good idea, poor execution in design. I use mine to cut eggs for egg salad. It wouldn't cut the onions, it only squished them into a liquid mess.

The hinge broke after the fourth time I used it . Very hard to push . I had to slice onions into fourths . I did like the way it did the onions while it lasted .It should be made from stronger materials .

The base part warped the 2nd time in the dishwasher , rendering the whole gadget useless. It was nice while it lasted, though.

It broke after my second time using it
By ibdcaptnVerified Purchaser from Sonoma County on 11/17/2007
Cons:
Difficult to Clean, Plastic hinge broke
Describe Yourself:

Comments about Lillian Vernon Onion Chopper:

After my first use, one of the plastic "feet" gasket came off in the dishwasher, and luckily I found it. Few advertizements mention the tedious little plastic scraper to clean the unit. Many times the outside layer of the onion would not go through, and I would have to "peel" it off the blades. Worst, however, is that the plastic hinge broke after my second use.

I love this tool. Onion chopping is so fast and easy--no more crying! If it's hard to push down with your hand, simply put it on the floor and step on it! It's heavy-duty.

This is a wonderful product - it has many uses when preparing a meal. I use to use a bulky chopper now I just use this simple gadget - no power needed which is a part I love because when cooking you may not always have a plug available. Plus my 12 year old can even use this - she loves cutting carrots and other things with it. I have even taken this on a camping trip ... talk about endless uses.

you need to use a very fresh onion or it won't cut. You need to place the onion just right to get squares. somewhat hard to push down.
