Who wouldn’t love spending their days enjoying the roar of the tide and warm nights sipping cocktails while listening to island music? Kids, that’s who. Taking children on a beach vacation is definitely a game changer but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun.
Tips for a Successful Beach Vacation with Kids
- No one wants sunburn, but if the kids get too much sun further plans for outdoor fun will have to be delayed. Don’t assume you can buy the sunscreen you need at your location. Bring along a waterproof, high-SPF product that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and apply liberally.
- Bring everyone indoors during the hottest part of the day, usually between noon and 3:00 pm. Planning naps, refreshments or alternative activities for this time of the day will reduce the chance of sunburns and make beach time more attractive.
- Accept that your life is going to be full of sand. Instead of stressing out when the kids kick sand on your beach towel or put sandy hands into the bag of snacks just remind yourself that you’re at a beautiful beach with your family and sand is part of the equation.
Bringing favorite games, a collection of beach toys and plenty of cash for activities will also help the whole family have more fun together. Busy children are children who sleep well at the end of the day, and that’s every parent’s idea of restful.
